The Shelter: Psalm 91 Copywork & Dictation {Free}

If you are new to copywork or dictation, you may appreciate The Shelter: Psalm 91 Copywork and Dictation, a free 99-page download by Jeannie Fulbright.

Copywork has long been the method of educating kings and world leaders; its effectiveness has been proven through the ages, from the King[s] of England to our own founding fathers.  In fact, John Quincy Adams, at the age of ten, wrote these words at the end of a letter to his father, President John Adams:

“P.S. Sir, if you will be so good as to favor me with a blank book, I will transcribe the most remarkable occurrences I meet with in my reading, which will serve to fix them upon my mind.”

The act of copying from one[s] reading requires a great deal more from the child than one would expect.  It … requires a fair amount of hand-eye coordination, and it enhances the visual perception skills needed for reading and math.  It improves one[s] handwriting, while imparting proper spelling, grammar and language usage.

Complete instructions for using the book are included, making it a helpful guide for a mom new to the process of leading her child in copywork and dictation exercises.

Each day the child will copy the same verse until he is comfortable with it before moving on to writing the passage from dictation. By the end of the book, the child will have written and memorized Psalm 91!

There is also room for the child to record words he is having trouble spelling.  Before attempting dictation, the spelling words can be focused on according to the eight-step spelling process provided.

The Shelter is a fantastic aid for a mom new to copywork and dictation — and it’s free!
