New Word Analysis {Free eBook}

New Word Analysis {Free eBook}New Word-Analysis, or School Etymology of English Derivative Words with Practical Exercises in Spelling, Analyzing, Defining, Synonyms, and the Use of Words by William Swinton is a free download written in 1879 that covers Latin prefixes, suffixes and derivatives; Greek prefixes, roots and derivatives; Anglo-Saxon roots and derivatives and other miscellaneous derivatives. Part I covers definitions and rules.

Although one could work through the book with the exercises, it might be more profitable to use the information, which is broken into small, easily-digested segments, to create a Word Roots notebook. This serves two purposes.  First, writing has a way of committing things to our memories. Second, the notebook will become a valuable source of reference.
